Lions visit FIFA Official Store
FIFA’s first Official Store in Singapore’s Changi Airport received a visit from some distinguished guests today: the country’s football squad. The players were on their way to Jakarta to defend their AFF Suzuki Cup crown, and they stopped off to meet fans, sign autographs and launch a three-month promotion of Football Association Singapore-branded merchandise, which is now available to buy from the Official Store.
Products include an innovative notebook illustrated with iconic player and team images; key chains; lanyards; and, of course, Singapore kits. The Tiger Cup (Asean Football Championship Trophy), which the Lions won in 2004, will be on display in store during the promotional period.
“We are delighted to support FIFA and the first FIFA Official Store at Changi Airport,” said Eric Ong, a spokesperson for the FAS. “We hope the launch of this limited collection of branded merchandise will enable fans and tourists alike to share in the success of the Singapore national team.” A percentage of profits from the merchandise will be re-invested in Singaporean football.
“We are grateful for the team for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit the first ever FIFA Official Store,” added Martin Darby, senior vice-president of the Global Brands Group, FIFA’s Master Licensee. “We look forward to supporting the FAS’s overall football programme with launching branded merchandise through other FIFA Official Stores in Singapore in 2009.”
The Official Store, located at Changi Airport’s Terminal Three Transit Lounge, is the first of its kind in the world, selling FIFA-branded official licensed products inspired by previous and future FIFA World Cup tournaments, as well as a range of adidas-branded merchandise.
Sinapore will play Cambodia, Myanmar and co-hosts Indonesia in the group stage of the forthcoming Suzuki Cup.
