SAFFC defends Singapore Cup Title

SAFFC beat Woodlands Wellington 2-1 after extra time to retain the Singapore Cup at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Stout defending and a safe pair of hands by Yazid Yasin kept the much-feared SAFFC offence at bay for large parts of the first half, before Shaiful Esah’s in-swinger broke the deadlock to give the Warriors the lead before interval.
The Rams refused to throw in the towel and were duly rewarded with an equalizer in the 78th minute through Fadzuhasny Juraimi, who prod home off Park Tae Won’s corner.
The Warriors were denied a penalty in the dying moments of the game when Ahmad Latiff was brought down in the six-yard box but referee T Aravinthan waved play-on.
Kenji Arai’s 102nd minute header off Shaiful Esah’s free-kick from the right gave SAFFC their first back-to-back double in the history of the S.League.
The match was witness by 5022 spectators who turned up for the cup final.It was one of the highest attendance for this season.
