SAFFC beat Woodlands Wellington 2-1 after extra time to retain the Singapore Cup at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Stout defending and a safe pair of hands by Yazid Yasin kept the much-feared SAFFC offence at bay for large parts of the first half, before Shaiful Esah’s in-swinger broke the deadlock to give the Warriors the lead before interval.

The Rams refused to throw in the towel and were duly rewarded with an equalizer in the 78th minute through Fadzuhasny Juraimi, who prod home off Park Tae Won’s corner.

The Warriors were denied a penalty in the dying moments of the game when Ahmad Latiff was brought down in the six-yard box but referee T Aravinthan waved play-on.

Kenji Arai’s 102nd minute header off Shaiful Esah’s free-kick from the right gave SAFFC their first back-to-back double in the history of the S.League.

The match was witness by 5022 spectators who turned up for the cup final.It was one of the highest attendance for this season.

SAFFC will be in the final for the second time after easily defeating Tampines Rovers 4-0 on aggregate.The scorer for SAFFC was none other than Singapore striker Aleksander Duric.He tap in two easy goals to gave Tampines the misery.The Stags did threatened their opponent,but to no avail.Khairul Amri shot hit the crossbar.

As for the warriors,they will be looking to defend their Singapore Cup title that they have won last year.The Rams will not provide an easy task for the warriors.

Woodlands in the final!

Woodlands Wellington thumped 8 mens Young Lions 3-1 to advanced to the final with an aggregate score of 4-3.Moroccan Abdelhadi Laakkad scored twice,which one of them was a penalty,and an own goal by Ismail Yunos ensured Woodlands victory.Irwan shah scored the consolation for the Young Lions.

Isa Halim,Obadin and Ismail Yunos were all sent off and these hindered Young Lions to play their usual football.Meanwhile,the Rams will face either SAFFC or Tampines in the final of RHB Singapore Cup 2008.The champion will automatically qualify for the AFC Champion League qualifiers.

The Rams failed to defend their one goal lead and succumb to a 2-1 defeat to the Young Lions.Lucian Dronca gave the lead to the Rams in the 11th minute.Obadin then equalised in the 33 minute and Fadhil Noh goal sealed the win for the Young Lions.

Meanwhile,the Rams are not yet out of the competition.They just need a 1 goal margin next Sunday to contest a place for the final.

SAFFC booked their spot in the semi-finals of the RHB Singapore Cup by beating league leaders Super Reds 3-0 at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium for a 4-1 aggregate win.

Evergreen Aleksandar Duric’s header off the corner given the Warriors the early advantage in the fifth minute. Therdsak Chaiman’s thurderbolt would have doubled the lead if not for Kang Su Ho’s tip for the corner before the interval.

The second goal eventually did come in the 57th minute, when Joo Ki Hwan haplessly scored an own goal from a Shaiful Esah’s curling free kick from the right.

Duric scored his second of the night in the 86th minute from close range to set up a semifinal grudge match against last year’s other finalists Tampines Rovers.

Home United crashed out

Home United suffered a defeat at home,thus shattering their hope of lifting the RHB SIngapore Cup2008.Meanwhile,Tampines proved to be a better team as they post to a 2-0 victory over the protectors,Qiu Li opened the account for the stags in the 40th minute.Fahrudin Mustafic then scored the winning goal five minutes later to ensured that they are in the semi-final.The stags will either face SAFFC or Super Reds in the later stage.
